I drive a 2002 Honda Civic EX and wanted to know if anybody had gone about lowering the height of the shift knob, and how they went bout doing that.

I have read quite a bit about the Revo short shifter, but I am unsure if that does anything to the height of the shift knob itself... as opposed to just making shorter throw distance.  Several people have told me that the short shifter adaptors made the for my model civic is pretty sloppy, and I know that it wouldn't lower the height at all.

I have also read a bit about the Skunk2 shift knob, which somebody actually said lowers the height of the shift knob itself.

So, if anybody has adjusted the HEIGHT of their shift knobs, I'd like to hear how they've gone about doing that... thanks in adavnce everyone. Be safe.

I took a cutting torch and chopped off almost 2 inches and welded it back together.  It was free!  YAY! (Every body LOVES free) I had came accross the some problem with short shifter findings.  The only short shifter for my car that actually made the shifter shorter was a Pilot short shifter and i really didnt want to go with pilot.  If you know anyone that works at a shop or like a exhaust shop they "should have" Cutting torch and welding machine.

Thanks for the quick response Brad_And_The_ACC ... and thanks for the comment that didn't help at all hondasuknuts... I appreciate it guys.

I would still like to hear if anybody else has experince with adjusting the height of their shifter in a Civic.

I haven't heard too many good things about short shifters for my model of the car, but hondasuknuts, if you have used one before let me know what you think bout it.

a short throw shifter just makes it quicker and shorter shifting. just take a hacksaw or saws all 2 cut the actual shifter its self. do it gently tho so u dont mess up the rubber bushings or the shift linkage. i done it. so i know 4 sure.

LOL

agreed.

Their is one major problem with a short shifter. It damnages your tranny slowly. You wont hear it but because of the quick shift from the shifter you are beating the disengaugement of the clutch. Thus in turn wearing the top hats off of your synco rings and causing perminate damnage to your rings. The only way I would personally ever use a short throw shifter is if you get a quick shift master cylender. I know Omni power used to make one but I dont know if they still do.
